Djurwa Launches Indigenous Youth Grant Program to Support Young Talent in Sports and the Arts

Djurwa Recycling and Waste Management proudly launched its new Indigenous Youth Grant Program

In October, Djurwa Recycling and Waste Management proudly launched its new Indigenous Youth Grant Program, a key initiative aimed at supporting young Indigenous Australians in their pursuit of excellence in sports and the arts. This program aligns with our profit-for-purpose approach, which seeks to inspire and empower the next generation of Indigenous Australians to achieve their dreams while preserving their rich cultural heritage.

The first recipients of this grant were two talented young touch footballers, Amaali and Ariane Gordon-Roqica. The sisters, proud Wiradjuri girls, recently represented the East Coast Orcas at the National Tag Football Championships in Coffs Harbour. Amaali’s team finished as runners-up in the Under 13s division, while Ariane’s Under 9s team placed 6th. Both girls starred on the field, showcasing their skills and determination.

Their mother, Kimberley Gordon, expressed gratitude for Djurwa’s support, saying, “Without support like Djurwa’s grant, many of our Koori kids unfortunately miss out on showing their talents on the sporting field.”

The objectives of the Indigenous Youth Grant Program include:

  • Providing financial support for young Indigenous Australians pursuing careers in sports and the arts.
  • Celebrating and preserving cultural heritage through artistic and athletic endeavors.
  • Creating opportunities for personal and professional development.

Through this program, we aim to promote the physical and mental well-being of Indigenous youth, encourage cultural expression, and foster community engagement. By supporting young talent, we hope to inspire more Indigenous Australians to pursue their passions and continue contributing to the vibrancy of their cultures.
